Open Evening at Dollar Academy 2016
The 4th open evening for fourth form pupils who are interested in studying in the field of medicine was a great success, despite the number of attendees being well down on last year from 150 to 60. Although we have no evidence to support this we suspect some of the letters, which are sent to heads, are languishing in the "to do" pile on a desk!
Next year we will send to guidance teachers in the hope that more schools are represented.
The speakers were excellent. The consultant surgeon had some delightfully gory moving pictures of surgical procedures which our robust visitors coped with admirably.
The 4th year medical student on a return visit to the stage gave the budding students a glimpse into life as a medical student: the pluses and few minuses.
Finally the admissions officer from St Andrews gave a succinct talk on the vagaries of academic requirements for different universities.
The evening was smoothly linked together by Doctor Jill, a friend of Joanna's and one of the Trustees who also showed a useful slide outlining the many options other than Doctor which, for a few ,may become plan B.
